The Write Stuff's Promotion Of Literacy In 2009: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

In November 2008,The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign (www.thewritestufftv.com) announced it was taking a place on the world scene to vigorously promote literacy and bring individuals as well as organizations to the battlefield, combining forces against the worldwide problem of illiteracy and apathy.

In December 2009, Founder/Mississippi native Cyrus Webb is pleased to announce that the first year of the project has been a tremendous success.

"We have worked with our literary partners across the country and reached out to others across the globe to show we are willing to do whatever we can to highlight the importance of reading," says Webb, 34. Coming from a state known for its problems with school drop-outs and illiteracy, Webb considers it an honor to be on the frontline of this important war.

Using the national platform of his radio show Conversations LIVE! (www.conversationsliveradio.com), the influence of his co-ed book club Conversations (www.thebestbookclub.info) and his webisodes created by The Write Stuff, Webb has seen tremendous support from literally every state in the country and individuals in the United Kingdom, Africa, Australia and Canada.This was evident when The Write Stuff hosted its 1st National Day of Reading that was held on Sat. November 21, 2009. The goal was to host events in all 50 states during the same time as a way to show unity on the cause of promoting reading. 40 states were able to participate, bringing together people of all backgrounds, walks of life and interests. During the final months of 2009, Webb created Do The Write Thang (www.dothewritethang.com) to combine his literary efforsts under one roof. "Art has been my passion since I was little. My mom always encouraged me to pursue it, and along with my teachers throughout my school years, helped me recognize my talent. There is sometimes an indescribable joy when I pursue an idea…whether it be a sketch, a finished illustration, a design, a painting, or any other form of expression.

"First, I wanted to be an architect. Then I started to learn the process of animation; I used to make very crude flipbooks. Later, when I took interest in comic books, I learned how to draw people fairly realistically and dove into the world of fantasy and superheroes. To this day, though I have many different ideas and different outlets, my passion still lies a visual representation of an idea or emotion. It has been one busy year for Mississippi native Cyrus Webb. The 34 year old has been hosting 10 live radio shows a week, moderating 8 monthly chapters of the book club he created in 2006, taking care of the clients of his publicity department, writing book reviews and still finding time to work on his own novel. However, with all that he has on his plate in 2009, nothing has been the focus of his attention like The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign.

"The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign has already made a big difference when it comes to talking about the importance of reading," says Webb. He along with many of his literary supporters spent the summer holding events across the country explaining how reading is a privilege that we have to take seriously. A major part of the campaign is the creation of America's first literary reality show, The Write Stuff, that will debut online at www.thewritestufftv.com on Sat. Oct. 17, 2009.

Earlier this year, ABC News reported that over 30 million Americans ages 16 and up were unable to read or write well. This proves what many have said for some time: Illiteracy is an epidemic that is spreading daily, claiming victims of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds.

Shadow Play Entertainment, Conversations Book Club, The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign and their literary partners are excited to announce a historic event geared towards sharing the gift of reading and books across the United States under a show of united support in each state. On Saturday, November 21, 2009 between the hours of 10-6p.m., The Write Stuff founder and host Cyrus A. Webb is working with others in scheduling Reading Parties (see http://tinyurl.com/readingparties ) throughout the country geared towards 1) speaking in one voice in support of encouraging reading, 2) supporting local authors and their books and 3) providing a positive outlet that is sometimes overlooked with all the chaos going on in the world around us.

Each Reading Party will be designed for that particular area by that particular area. Webb and his supporters will only act as a means to promote the event and help strategize where their is a need for assistance. During the time frame selected by each Reading Party, there will be booksignings, book discussions or whatever seems appropriate to that host. Literary Soldiers Wage War Against Illiteracy

There's a powerful movement taking place across the world, and the battle that is ensuing involves everyone. It is a fight against illiteracy. One of the Generals in the war is 34 year-old multi-media personality Cyrus A. Webb (seen below with bestselling author Darden North at a book discussion in Waldenbooks).

"With so much going on in the world it's easy to forget how many lives are being affected by not being able to read and write well," says Webb, but he is determined to use the various platforms he is given to not only keep the awareness on literacy but bring others together to do the same.

In May 2009, ABC News reported that about 30 million Americans have trouble reading and writing. "There is no way I can reach all the people that need help," Webb admits, "but I am taking advantage of every opportunity to not only mention the problem but network with individuals who care about being a part of the solution."

Since 1999, Webb (seen below with a classroom and associates at Pearl Public Library in Mississippi) has been working in classrooms promoting visual and literary art and made his services available to non-profit organizations and others who wish to shine an all-important light on the subject and importance of reading.

Through his radio and television show, bi-monthly Conversations Magazine, the numerous chapters of the Conversations Book Club, his blog as well as articles and commentaries, he is introducing the world to authors of various genres and interests as well as discussing ways that those who are readers and non-readers can come together and join what Webb refers to as an "addiction to books."

He realizes that there is no one way to address the problem. "We all like different things," Webb says, "so it is our job as literary soldiers to find ways in order to reach those who are in need of help." Publications such as Crunk Magazine, Hype Magazine, S.T.I.L.L. Magazine and Nu South Magazines have also enlisted into the service to promote the importance of reading.

In order to tie all of his literary components together, Webb (seen above during a book discussion of Platinum-selling recording artist Corey "C-Murder" Miller's bestselling novel DEATH AROUND THE CORNER at Barnes & Noble) created the "Do The Write Thang" Campaign (see http://www.dothewritethang.com) Thus far Webb has joined with allies in over 30 states, including bestselling and up-and-coming authors, celebrities in tv and radio as well as recognizable names and faces in sports(including Tray Cheney of HBO's The Wire, Derrick Hargrove of MTV 50 CENT: The Money & The Power, Korto Momolu of Bravo's Project Runway, numerous cast members from VH1's I WANT TO WORK FOR DIDDY, Recording artists Nappy Roots and more). They are hosting and supporting what are called "Reading Parties" that provide networking for book lovers but also discussions as to how we can work together in order to help others. Webb is also hosting a series of town-hall style meetings in-person and through his radio show addressing issues that everyone are dealing with, offering solutions along the way.

The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign Welcomes National Recording Artists Nappy Roots

All across the world individuals of different backgrounds and interests are uniting to show their support for literacy. For its part The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign has garnered national attention for making sure that no group is left out of this all-important mission. In June 2009 The Write Stuff was joined on the battleground by international recording artists Nappy Roots.

Nappy Roots debut independent album Country Fried Cess was released in 1999, which led to the group being signed by Atlantic Records. Their first album on Atlantic was 2002's biggest selling hip-hop album, "Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz".

"Herschel Dixon (Tour Coordinator for The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign) is responsible for bringing Nappy Roots into our family," says The Write Stuff and Conversations Book Club Founder Cyrus A. Webb, 33. "He was friends with some of the members (attending college with some of them at Western Kentucky University), told them about the project, and they were more than willing to lend their support to a cause that they are also passionate about."

Their next album with Atlantic Records was Wooden Leather, released in 2003, featuring the singles "Roun' the Globe" which was featured on Madden 2004 and "Sick and Tired" (featuring Anthony Hamilton). This critically acclaimed, major label follow up album, "Wooden Leather" featured production from Kanye West, David Banner and Lil Jon.

Since the release of Wooden Leather they are back to being independent artists, and have started their own label, N.R.E.G (Nappy Roots Entertainment Group) with distribution through Fontana/Universal Music Group.

In 2008, the Nappy Roots returned to the spotlight with an internet campaign targeting the mega-popular hip-hop sites to promote their album Humdinger. It entered the Billboard Rap Charts at #7 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums at #13.

Nappy Roots last toured across the country on the "Pursuit of Nappyness" tour and are working on their next project. The Write Stuff Joins Forces With ENWA-Rwanda In Promoting Literacy

Continuing its mission to encourage reading and spread its addiction to books around the world, The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign is pleased to announce its support of ENWA-Rwanda.

ENWA is a not for profit organization that supports Rwanda’s post-genocide reconstruction efforts. The organization contributes to the healing of the country after the traumatic events of 1994 by supporting development initiatives started by women seeking self-reliance and improvement of the welfare of their communities.

ENWA's mission is to empower women to become competitive entrepreneurs through enhancing their potential to start and manage income generating projects. It provides them with business advisory services and develop their entrepreneurial skills.

In 2009, however, ENWA began using its influence to gather reading materials for Rwanda, hosting a book drive that garnered the support and attention of individuals across the world. It was through this endeavor that Cyrus A. Webb, The Write Stuff's Founder and host of Conversations LIVE! Radio, was introduced to Claire Umubyeyi and Delilah Rothenberg.

"The work Claire and Delilah are doing is so incredible and needed," says Webb,33. He received an email from Delilah after she saw a post about The Write Stuff on http://www.blackgivesback.com. "I was glad we could work together, and it became a chain reaction that I hope will further the cause of both of our organizations."

The Write Stuff Founder Talks To Martha Stewart About Promoting Literacy

On Monday, June 1, 2009 The Write Stuff Founder, Cyrus A. Webb, had the opportunity to talk with one of his business heroes: Martha Stewart.

The 3 minute conversation took place during her "Ask Martha" segment on her Sirius radio show. Webb began by telling Martha how glad he was she had taken his call, and that he had loved her book THE MARTHA RULES and uses it in his own life. He then told Martha about the upcoming Reading Parties that are being held across the country to promote literacy, and asked her for advice on how to reach out to others to share the love of reading.

She first said that the parties were "a great idea" and then said it was important to encourage reading. Martha went on to say that some who might not have a love for reading may have had some type of disability that might have prohibited them from doing so effectively or might just not know where to begin. She suggested reaching out to those in the community who are known to reach out and assist, such as teachers, community leaders and organizations equipped to assist individuals. She then wished the project luck!

Webb thanks Martha for her kind words and advice. We look forward to having her involved in our literacy campaign in some fashion in the future.

Comedian/Community Leader Ced Delaney Joins The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign

Shadow Play Entertainment is pleased to announce that Comedian/Community Leader Ced Delaney has joined The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign.

"It's great to have those from so many backgrounds joining our coalition," says Cyrus A. Webb, Founder of The Write Stuff. Delaney was introduced to the project by Production Consultant Herschel Dixon, and was excited to come on board.

"Ced realizes the importance of giving back," says Dixon, "and he is always looking for ways to use his celebrity to make a difference."

The resume of Ced Delaney is an impressive one. He has performed in cities across America as well as Europe, and has hosted tours with the best of the best in comedy including Rickey Smiley, Cedric The Entertainer, Steve Harvey, and Dave Chappelle.

Delaney has also been co-host of several radio morning shows and is a regular guest on BET’s “Comic View”. while hosting monthly comedy nights at Workplay called The “Ced Delaney COMedy Nite”, and “Tickle Tuesdays” at Comedy Club Stardome.

In addition to his professional life, he is also devoted to giving back to the community, beginning the Be A Man Foundation, a mentoring program for teen males to help them become better men and productive citizens. The organization tackles areas of literacy, self worth, and community involvement. In addition to his work with the Be A Man Foundation, Ced is also very active with the Big Brothers program.

Author Jeff Rivera: Telling his story, offering advice to aspiring writers

Author Jeff Rivera is an example of what never letting go of your dreams will help you accomplish. From his hometown of Hillsboro, Oregon to his current residence in New York City, he is living the life that many creative individuals could only wish to have, but his journey has not been easy. Through setbacks, personal disappointments and the trials of everyday life, he has push forward---allowing nothing to stop him. Among the projects he is currently working on is The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign. In this exclusive interview with Cyrus A. Webb of Conversations Book Club, Conversations LIVE! Radio and Crunk Book Club, he talks about the journey and where he is looking for it to take him next.

Jeff, thanks for talking with Crunk Magazine and Conversations. First of all, I want to say congratulations on the success of your debut novel Forever My Lady and your other projects. I have to ask you, if someone had told you 10 years ago that you would be doing what you are today, would you have believed them?
Thanks, I'm still in shock with the way that things have come together for me but it hasn't been without it's ups and downs. So many people didn't believe in me, I had to move forward and not listen to the nay-sayers. I always dreamed of having great things but had no idea how it would happen, so in a way, yeah I'm just as shocked as anyone else and thank God literally everyday for everything that's happened.

When did you first realize that you had a love affair with words?
At a very early age, when I was in first grade. I didn't even know it was called writing. It was just what I did, wrote stories about the kids in class. The stories didn't make any sense but I didn't know that back then.

Would you say that your love of words was something that was encouraged by those around you?
Not at all. I mean, my teachers and parents encouraged me to do it but not as a way to make a living. But I dreamed of one day making that happen and thank God at least God was listening.

I was impressed to find out that your journey through live has not always been so easy. Take our readers into some of the challenges you have faced in your life and more importantly how you overcame them?
Name it and I've probably been through it. I grew up in American poverty, homelessness, child abuse. It hasn't been easy but let me tell you there is always someone who's been through much worse. So, I'm not complaining.

There are many aspiring writers that will read this interview that will want to know how you were able to be picked up by a major publisher with your first book. Before we get into that, however, tell us how the idea for Forever My Lady developed.
Forever My Lady began when I was working at Kmart. I met a friend of mine who came from a work release program and was trying to turn his life around for his lady, that was the inspiration for me to tell my story of a fictional character named Dio who would stop at nothing to win his lady back. It started out as a screenplay but after many rejections I decided to self-publish the book from there the novel grew a huge following online and Warner (now called Grand Central Publishing) got wind of it.

A question I know you get a lot is how much of Jeff Rivera is in the book. What would you say?
I would a good 90% of Jeff Rivera is in the book in each of the characters, I can relate to each of them in different ways.

Your book was published by Grand Central Publishing, formerly Warner Books. How did it get to them?
I had sent it to them and it rotted on their desk for 3 months, then when I got an agent, she made a phone call and they read it over the weekend and had an offer within 7 days. Come to think about it, I think it was like an offer in like 3-4 days. It was very fast. When it's meant to be, and the timing's right, it happens quickly and effortlessly.

A misconception that some aspiring writers have is that being published by a major publishing house lessens the amount of work they have to personally do to promote the book. Were you surprised at how much the book's success still depended on you?
Not at all, I was warned ahead of time that I would be doing most of the work. I wasn't doing any less than I was doing to promote the book when I was self-publishing.

Among the other projects you are doing is GumboWriters.com. Tell us about it.
GumboWriters.com is a one-stop shop for writers who want to get an agent or who want to self-publish. I work with editors formerly with the major publishing houses who will edit your manuscript and bring it to the level expected for a major house.

You are also working with Shadow Play Entertainment as part of The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign. You will be sharing 10 writing tips in 60 second segments. What do you hope aspiring writers get from those tips?
These tips go beyond the obvious tips you always here. I think aspiring writers will hear some things they've never heard before publicly like what it really takes to get published.

What's next for you?
I'm working on a kids book and some other projects up my sleeve, including the sequel to Forever My Lady.

Through The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign, Shadow Play Entertainment has been privileged to work with individuals across the world when it comes to promoting literacy and the importance of reading, and thanks to one of its most visible spokespersons, that group continues to grow. Derrick Hargrove (aka Tyger), known to many from MTV's 50 CENT: The Money & The Power, introduced Shadow Play's President, Cyrus A. Webb, to its newest supporter, Ryan Kessman.

At the age of 19, Kessman is no stranger to the public eye, having had roles in the film 2012 and television series Without A Trace, My Name Is Earl, The Unit, Ghost Whisperer and most recently MTV's reality show Bully Beat Down. A California native, he is using his celebrity and name recognition to bring attention to causes that matter to him, including literacy.

Kessman took a few minutes to discuss his life and support of The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign with Webb in this exclusive interview.

How long have you been interested in the entertainment industry?
I have been interested in the entertainment industry since the early age of 5.

Is it something that your family has always supported?
Yes, entertainment has always been a strongly supported industry in my family.

Looking at the actors that are out there, who do you look to as models to follow?
I would say i like to follow the most Vin Diesel and Jason Statham.

Your time in the industry has been short but successful. What do you attribute it to?
My willingness and desire to succeed.

Being so young, do you feel as though you are missing out on anything by spending so much time pursuing a career?
No, i don't feel like i am missing out on anything because this is the career i have always wanted to do since i was little.

For those who are out there looking to make it as an actor or in any form of the entertainment industry, what would you tell them?
Continue to follow your dreams as there will be obstacles to overcome.

With life comes disappointment. What has been the biggest disappointment for you so far and how did you overcome it?
My biggest disappointment so far in life is accepting a full ride football scholarship to BYU only to find out the school wasn't what I had expected. I overcame this obstacle by perusing another life long dream of the entrainment business.

When you can read and understand you have tackled a large portion of obstacles in life.

What is next for you?
I pitched to MTV mine and Tyger's (aka Derrick Hargrove from MTV's 50 Cent: The Money & The Power) idea of them to sponsor us to go to schools and lecture on the aspect of bullying in schools. Suicide are ramped in schools districts and most of it is from bullying.

Tray, thanks for taking out the time to talk with us. You have achieved so much in your life from an early age. Are you surprised at how quickly things have come your way?

Well, I feel as though I really put in alot of hard work, time and effort throughout the years. I been in the entertainment industry since I was 8yrs old. To be able to get recognized through out the world for some of my achievements such as starring on one of the biggest shows that ever hit television (The Wire) portraying the character "Poot" and also having an inspirational Book out titled The Truth You Can't beTRAY" is defitnely a blessing from God. The only reason I am not all that surprised at how quickly things have come my way is because I am a firm believer in God, and I work very hard and take this job serious and thats what it takes to achieve goals.

Take us back to Tray Chaney as a child. Did you always know you were going to achieve big things?

Well I did have a strong support system behind me such as my parents, family members, the community. When individuals see that a child has something that he or she is trying to do on a positive note usually you can get that strong support. I always dreamed about achieving Big things, and its defitnely nothing wrong with dreaming. I still dream, so to answer your question YES I did feel like one day I will become successful the older and more mature I get.

What about your family? It seems like from the video on your website www.traychaney.com that your family has been supportive of your dream from the beginning. Has that always been the case?

Yes that has defitnely been the case. I am truly blessed to have the parent I have. My parents always taught me to be humble at the same time determined to achieve my goals in life. They also taught me that education has to be taken very serious if I was going to be pursuing a Career in the entertainment industry PERIOD. They were very Firm when it came down to getting my education. They have truly provided for me as well as Supported.

You have gone from performing on television at the Apollo to being on HBO's The Wire. What would you tell those who want to enter the entertainment industry about your experience that could help them?

Honestly I would tell them to never take the word NO as an answer. Study your craft. Studying your craft could mean furthering your education on what it is that you are pursuing by taking Classes, just really staying humble and devoting your time as well as energy. Dont ever get discouraged because once that happens that can really throw your focus off and you defitnely dont want that to happen. Always realize this business is Tough, so you have to stay Strong.

We all have role models that we look up to or emulate. Who has that been for you, and how does it feel to now be a role model for others.

I really look up to Don Cheadle Not just for his great acting but because of the things he does outside of acting as far as his community affairs. This Man is really concerned about worldwide issues. I have a deep respect for Don Cheadle. Its so many role models that I look up to. I put it this way, anyone that is bringing positive energy to the world I look up to them. For me to be someone's role model is amazing. I just feel if I continue to stay positive and inspire the world, other individuals that look up to me will follow the same path.

On top of everything else you are doing, Tray, you are also a published author. Tell us about the book The Truth You Can't BeTray and what led you to write it?

"The Truth You Cant beTRAY" is my self published Book. Its my autobiography. The book takes my readers on a journey of how I started in the entertainment industry. Trials and Tribulations I had to face. Its an Inspirational/Motivating Tool for Individuals to strive for there dreams. The book has No Profanity/Cursing what so ever. I wrote the book as if I was having a conversation with someone. Its nothing technical about the book at all. What led me to write it was its not hard to see we live in a world where people have no morals. Its so much crime, violence, and negative issues going on. I dont feel like I can save the world but at the same time I just wanted to put something positive out to show individuals that they can have a positve side to them. What do you hope people learn about you from the book, and who do you think would best benefit from reading it?

I want people to learn that no matter what you can overcome trials and tribulations. Strive for your Dreams. Its certain choices we all have to make as human beings. I feel anyone no matter what age you are can relate. Its hard to say who it would benefit. I have young people from the early age of 8yrs old telling me they love the book. Then I turn around and a 60yr old person says that the book helped them to appreciate certain things that are in the the book. That was my point in writing it for all ages...I wanted everyone to be able to relate to something.

Reading is something that does not get alot of attention. In fact you and I met because of our literacy campaign called The Write Stuff. What do you think we can do to encourage more young people and even adults to read?

To encourage young people as well as adults to read we have to find a way to capture there interest. Really dig deep down into what it is they are interested in and provide it for them. I was even thinking setting up programs/seminars with different topics to read about whether it be entertainment, sports, health conditions, learning how to cope with different worldwide issuses. We really have to capture there interest.

That I am a positive person. I am very firm on education as well as reading/studying. I am a leader. I am here to motivate as well as inspire the world. I am approachable. Dont ever feel like you cant reach out if something is on your mind.

Can you tell us what is next for you?

I am in the process of turning my book "The Truth You Can't beTRAY" into a film. I am giving anyone that purchases the book at www.amazon.com a chance to audition for the film. I am self-published so I can make those type of decisions. I have a movie that just came out in stores (Walmart, Target, Blockbuster, etc) called "What We Do" starring myself, Freeway, Young Gunz, Omillio Sparks, E-ness. I am also currently in the studio working on my new album "Jack of all Trays" I have 2 singles from The album that me and my team are pushing called 'Dilemma' feat Jazz of Druhill and My International/Rythmic Record called 'Baby Lets Go' feat G-Mann w/ Cherri. U.K. Filmmaker Tom Sands Supports The Write Stuff Literacy Campaign

The Creator of The Write Stuff Reality Show came across his short film while watching videos on Youtube, but it was only a matter of time before the talent of 19-year old Tom Sands surfaced. Living in the United Kingdom, he has produced several films and is making a name for himself, allowing inspiration to be his guide. Tom Sands has now joined Shadow Play Entertainment in promoting reading and The Write Stuff literacy campaign.

How long have you been involved in filmmaking? I have been making short films since I was 15. I have made over 25 now and I'm happy with about three of them! I have also written screenplays, and have recently signed with a London agency as a writer. I have done my bit as a runner and an assistant and hated it, as I'm sure everyone does.

How did the idea for the short film The Write Stuff come about? The central idea of the film is that writing is hard. It is not as easy as many people think. I know this now! Most of the time it requires severe emotional strain, significant catharsis, and a great deal of frustration. I wanted to show this side of creativity but show that if one relaxes, if one feels those feelings, the result can often be inspiration. (See the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5mx_YsjJfg.)

Reading is something that is not pushed as much as going to the movies or buying the hottest music. How do you think we can go about encouraging more people to open a book? I think one of the main problems is the fact that everyone knows when a blockbuster is released. Few are made aware of the latest bestseller. Distributors push and push films and music. People must be made aware of a new title, and actively encouraged to pick it up.

What do you hope people get from your work as a filmmaker? Inspiration.

As for Shadow Play Entertainment's project The Write Stuff, what do you hope it achieves? I hope that The Write Stuff makes writers realise the scope and the breadth of readers out there. I hope it allows the two to connect with each other and further the artform.

What is next for you? I'm concentrating on two more screenplays and a new short film to be shot on 16mm. PLans to shoot a feature film next year are also in place.

What makes you believe you have The Write Stuff? I know I have the RIGHT stuff because unlike a lot of writers, I have great stories to tell. Life's adversities gave me the will to survive. I write from the soul because of everything I've gone through. When a person can speak of their own experiences in life, those are the best song writers, authors and movie script writers. Successful stories most often comes from the wounded, hurt, driven and that special unique person. Look at Mr. Tyler Perry, (my idol) but if you think Tyler made millions from his fictional character Madea, then you ain't seen nothing yet. Pretty Pam is real, and people will feel whatever I write about. Whether it be novels, poems, songs, or essays, people always relate to the messages in what I write about. I have more than just talent, I have a gift for writing and there is a difference between the two. There is such a joy in experiencing what I call the literary flow, as the words are crafted from the sentence to sentence, chapter after chapter and now, book to book. These times give me a knowing that I have it. I experience that knowing when my readers want to hold conversations with me about the fictional characters I've created. It is the feeling of not wanting to finish a work, because I'm not ready to share the characters with the world...not quite yet. Parties Scheduled Nationwide to Encourage Reading

With all the talk of change in the United States, one thing that is not improving or getting the attention it deserves is the importance of reading and the seemingly never-ending problem of illiteracy. To combat this dangerous trend,Shadow Play Entertainment, Conversations Book Club and those associated with The Write Stuff literacy campaign will be hosting reading parties across the country beginning Thursday, May 21, 2009 through Saturday, June 27, 2009. The theme for these events is "JOIN THE ADDICTION: Get Hooked on Books".

Hosted by Cyrus A. Webb, President of Conversations Book Club and host of The Write Stuff Reality Show, each party is designed to allow book lovers to come together for networking, to meet authors from the area as well as to discuss how they can work together to promote reading.

Parties have been scheduled in Little Rock, Memphis, Miami, Atlanta, Raleigh, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Flint, Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville, Washington D. C., New York City and Seattle. Each is free and open to the public, however, those who attend are asked to bring a new or gently used book as a donation that will go to either the Read Across America Project, CityKids Foundation, the Common Ground Foundation, Everybody wins, Adele's Literary Library, Reading Tree or a library in need within that particular city.

Coca-Cola's Vitaminwater joins The Write Stuff Reality Show

Shadow Play Entertainment is pleased to announce that Vitaminwater, made by Coca-Cola-owned Glaceau, is now the official enhanced water product of The Write Stuff Reality Show.

"This is a big deal for The Write Stuff project and Shadow Play Entertainment," says Herschel Dixon,30. Dixon is a Production Consultant for Shadow Play Ent. and negotiated the deal on behalf of the company. Working with the Area and District Managers of the Louisville, KY offices of Glaceau, the confirmation came in on Monday, March 23, 2009.

Webb The Write Stuff is America's first literary reality show and will show the world what aspiring writers endure in order to make it in the world of publishing. When Shadow Play Entertainment President Cyrus A. Webb announced the creation of America's first literary reality show (The Write Stuff) in late 2008, he knew that it would be something that attracted the attention of those outside of writing as well. After all, one of the most important aspects of a good show is the music that accompanies it, and Webb knew he had the chance to do something special with the songs that were a part of this new project.

"We wanted the music and the artists to be just as unique as the concept of the show itself," says Webb, 33, "but we wanted to make sure that the songs were by those who shared our passion for literacy as well." To begin the process, he first went to recording artists he had worked with in the past that were a part of his literacy campaign called Hip Hop and Books. This included Jack Squad, Jon Boy (VH1's The White Rapper Show), Eddie Wright, Dj Down South and Omega Red. Next he went to The Patrick Smith Band who have been supporters of Shadow Play Entertainment since 2004.

Why so many, though, from the Hip Hop community? "Hip Hop is more than just what is glamorized on tv and in some music," says Larry Washington, Asst. Music Producer for The Write Stuff project.
